Lim Beng Teck, 67, Group Managing Director of The LQS Group, his 95 year-old family business conglomerate involved in various industries ranging from real estate development and construction to manufacturing and media and entertainment. The core business of the group is in real estate development, construction contracting and construction related manufacturing. Apart from this, the group is also involved in the manufacture of various “commodities” from specialist steel fasteners to construction materials, medical devices, and the refining of palm oil and power generation in China. The Group’s involvement in the media space is under the Vision Group.
The Vision Group, has been in the media industry in Asia for the past 33 years and is today one of the largest independent producer and distributor of movies and television content in Asia. Primarily, our media business is centered on:
• Movie and Television content production and distribution
• 3D animation and digital special effects
• Interactive television content and applications (including games)
• Software engineering for mobile and new media
Based in Malaysia and supported by its production hubs in Indonesia and the Philippines and its distribution networks throughout Asia, Vision is one of the largest content creation group of its kind in the ASEAN region. As part of its production business, the Group has produced shows for STAR, Warner Bros, Sony, Discovery, Scripps, E! Entertainment and other pan-regional broadcasters as well as have done a lot of co-productions with major Asian media groups like Raintree and MediaCorp in Singapore; ABS-CBN, GMA and TV5 in the Philippines; RCTI, Indosiar and several major broadcasters in Indonesia; TVB in Hong Kong; and also ZDF in Europe. Our experience spans from producing an entire channel (as we did for Channel V for its pan-Asian broadcast out of our studios in Kuala Lumpur for 8 years) to drama, movies and major event productions like MasterChef. Some of our works have won awards at the Asian Television Awards, the Magnolia Awards from the Shanghai Film and Television Festival, the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), the Bangkok Film Festival, etc as well as being nominated for the International Emmy.
Prior to 1985, Beng Teck was the Managing Director of SGV-Kassim Chan Sdn Bhd, the management consulting arm of the Malaysian member firm of The SGV Group (the Group is now part of Deloitte Worldwide). He holds a BSC Hons. (Civil Engineering) degree, a Diploma of the Imperial College of Science & Technology and a MSc (Operations Research & Management Science) degree from Imperial College of Science & Technology, University of London, UK., and is also an Associate of City & Guilds Institute, UK
